On second thought, Ifil might be exactly the moderator the McCain camp wants.

Now that it’s been revealed she has a pro-Obama book coming out (which gee, she forgot to mention to the presidential debate board), she’s going to have to bend over backwards to Palin to not show any unfair or hostile questions to her.

And, if Palin doesn’t do well, there will be suspicion that Ifil had asked her “gotcha” questions like, “How did John McCain vote on S.213?” (What? You don’t know, Sarah what S.213 was and how your running mate voted?!).

Side note: Maybe you don’t believe that the book by Ifil is a pro-Obama book; fine. Maybe you think she is doing perfectly balanced, non-partisan reporting in the book. Again, fine.

But consider this: If Obama wins, this book is destined to become a NYT bestseller – which is about 100,000 copies or more; if he loses, she gets next to nothing. Authors typically get about $3.50 a copy on books of this price range – about $20 – $25. Therefore, if she sells 100k books, she’ll get about $350,000 – or more, depending on how many copies sell. She have a vested interest in seeing Obama win. I cannot believe no one else sees this conflict of interest.
